More About Brian

Brian is a cyber security, engineering, and safety professional with 30 years of experience in project management, electrical and computer engineering, and operational integration of emergent capabilities. He possesses extensive expertise in critical infrastructure protection, cyber security, and management of rapid innovation.

Before joining ICAM Australia, he led the development of the systems architecture and advanced analytical tools for multi-national defense information fusion center with Amentum. He also worked with the US Indo-Pacific Command (USINDOPACOM) Innovation and Experimentation Division to lead the Rapid Capability Cell and develop and manage applications of machine learning for warfighting challenges.

With Booz Allen Hamilton, Brian managed the overall Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) Risk Management Strategy for the U.S. Pacific Command, developing and implementing the risk management strategy steps for all key assets throughout the Pacific. This followed his time with Xcel Energy as the first CIP cyber security program manager to develop and implement the overall framework, systems, and processes to implement the first sets of federal CIP standards for cyber security.

His other experience includes work with the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission as a reactor safety inspector, enterprise implementation management for a medical imaging software company, and critical infrastructure protection work at the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA). Brian also served in the US Navy as a submarine officer for seven and a half years, qualifying as a nuclear engineer for supervision of submarine reactor plants.

Brian earned a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Cornell University in 1994, a Master of Engineering (Electrical) from Cornell in 1995, and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) at Washington State University in 2016. He also holds the Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) and Project Management Professional (PMP) credentials.

He has presented at several conferences on cybersecurity and critical infrastructure, including the 2021 (ISC)2 Security Congress, several EnergySec cyber security summits, and the Hawaii International Conference on Systems Science. He also speaks Italian and Spanish (but admits he should be practicing more).
