Many have written that the journey for safety excellence is mapped out with steps or stages in key elements that together, if an organisation does the work to transition through them, the outcome of safety excellence may be realised.
Mathis 2019 points to research that visible progress towards a goal is both informational and motivational. Having conducted Safety Culture Mapping exercises within organisations using similar Safety Culture Maturity Models, one safety focus element can be ICAM Incident Investigations.
An organisation can select focus elements that will assure it achieves Health & Safety excellence such as:
- Leadership
- Engagement
- Strategy
Alternatively, an organisation can choose to focus specifically on proactive elements such as:
- Safe Job Planning
- Hazard Reporting
- Communication
- Critical Risk Behaviours; and,
post event elements such as:
- Incident Investigations
- Incident Action Management.
